Whidbey Island and more....

We are enjoying the nice weather (yes, we have had some pretty terrific weather for here!)  and getting to visit with the kids, although they are all quite busy.  We have found plenty to do while they are working, etc.  it is such a beautiful area.
The beautiful Deception Pass bridge on Whidbey Island
From the beach below on our hike

Military base nearby
Fort Casey was built in the 1890's but never really used as it was obsolete by the time it was finished.  It was reactivated during WWII for a short time.

Dan loved the guns!
You can see how invisible it was from the water
The deer enjoy it too!
The Admiralty Head lighthouse is in the same place

Stopped at Greenbank farm......an old farm that was saved by the community that now has gardens and a co-op of different local product and talent
Coupeville is one of the little old port towns on the island.  It's like stepping back in time
Up the coast to the north we spent an afternoon wandering around the little town of Fairhaven after visiting with the ranger we worked for 5 years ago when we camphosted and Dan worked as a park aide with our daughter.  We bought a case of good flavored oils and vinegars....that ought to last us for a while!
Came back to Deception Pass for a hike.....nice view below
Start of the trail down!
Great hike along the beach for part of it

Dan says this how he surfed back in the day!
And of course.....why we are here.....our grandson Eli's big graduation day.  So proud of him.  Now we have 5 down and 8 to go. LOL  Hopefully some college grads mixed in along the way....
